Lib Tech Skate Banana Snowboard
20 years of Skate Banana. Some snowboards come and go. Others become part of snowboarding history. The Lib Tech Skate Banana is firmly in the latter category.
The Skate Banana was one of the boards that helped turn conventional snowboard design on its head, introducing Lib Tech's revolutionary Banana Technology rocker/camber hybrid contour. Twenty years later, the concept remains just as relevant: a playful, incredibly easy-to-ride board that can carve hardpack, grip on icy slopes, jib around the park and float through powder.
Lib Tech is a brand we have carried for decades and one that has always been a genuine staff favourite. From the Skate Banana and Jamie Lynn through to the legendary Orca, Lib Tech has consistently produced boards that do things differently. The Skate Banana is perhaps the perfect example of that approach.
Banana Technology
The Skate Banana's defining feature is its original rocker/camber hybrid contour. Instead of relying on traditional camber running between the bindings, the board uses a central rocker section with cambered sections towards the contact points.
The result is an unusual combination of characteristics. The rocker between your feet helps the board feel loose, forgiving and playful, while the cambered sections provide pressure at the contact points for carving, stability, edge hold and pop.
It is this combination that makes the Skate Banana so approachable. It is forgiving enough to encourage newer riders to progress, but still capable enough to keep experienced riders entertained. Put simply, it turns the mountain into a freestyle playground.
Magne-Traction®
Then there is Magne-Traction. Seven strategically positioned serrations along the edge increase contact and pressure points between the board and snow, giving the Skate Banana remarkably dependable edge hold.
That is particularly useful on the firm, icy snow that UK riders regularly encounter. Rather than feeling nervous when conditions become hard and slick, the Skate Banana's serrated edges give you the confidence to hold an edge and keep carving. On softer snow, the same technology provides excellent control without making the board feel overly aggressive.
Playful, versatile and genuinely fun
With a medium flex, the Skate Banana sits in a sweet spot that works for a huge range of riders. It is playful enough for buttering, side hits and park riding, yet stable enough for cruising the pistes and exploring the rest of the mountain.
It is also a particularly good choice if you want a snowboard that does not demand perfect technique every time you get on it. The Banana Technology makes the board forgiving and manoeuvrable, while the cambered contact areas and Magne-Traction provide the grip and stability needed when you start pushing harder.
And when the snow does finally arrive, the rocker between your feet helps the Skate Banana stay wonderfully floaty. It may have been born as a freestyle revolution, but it has always been much more than a park board.
Original Power Construction
Underneath the distinctive contour is Lib Tech's Original Power Construction, combining a lightweight 75% Aspen / 25% Paulownia core with Bi-Ax and Tri-Ax fibreglass. Birch and UHMW internal sidewalls add strength, while UHMW tip and tail impact deflection helps protect the board in the areas that see the most abuse.
A sintered Knife Cut base provides the speed you would expect from a performance snowboard, while the Eco Sublimated Poly top keeps the construction durable and environmentally considered.

Our Verdict
There is a reason the Skate Banana has remained one of Lib Tech's best-known boards for two decades. It is simply fun.
The Banana Technology gives the board an unusually forgiving and playful character without turning it into a beginner-only snowboard. Add Magne-Traction and you get a board that can deal with everything from soft snow to the hard, icy conditions we are all too familiar with in the UK.
For us, the Skate Banana is one of those boards that makes sense whether you are buying your first proper snowboard, looking for something to progress on, or are an experienced rider who simply wants a board that puts a smile on your face. It is a genuine Lib Tech icon, and after 20 years, the original concept still works brilliantly.
